Another note, if you're just signing up to play the betas, you can just wait for me to leak the good ones a public beta to be released. It's not like there's anything special in the beta section anyway, I've watched it for almost three years with about 5 or 10 actual betas.

All the development is happening in a public repository anyway, so it's not as if the betas were a big secret. The deal with becoming a Beta Tester is this: You agree to play unfinished and buggy versions of the game and give the developers feedback on it, and in return the developers try to improve it based on your suggestions. So it's a position of status, because you have more influence on the development than the average forumgoer, but you have to earn that status by putting in work for testing and giving useful feedback.
