SOPA protests on Jan 18
« on: January 15, 2012, 06:59:22 am »

Hi again. I hope many of you are aware that two laws are currently being discussed in the USA that could have very negative consequences for communities like this one. I'm talking about the SOPA and PROTECT IP issue of course. If you don't know about the problem yet, you can get informed by e.g. watching TotalBiscuit's video on the issue:

WTF is SOPA ? aka The American Government trying to ruin the internet

In three days, many companies and communities who oppose these laws and feel they might not be able to continue functioning if they pass will take down their services for the day to raise awareness of the problem.

I support this idea, but I'm not sure taking down ganggarrison.com would achieve anything except annoying you guys. Alternatively, we could put up one of these fancy "Stop censorship" banners up on our site (as promoted on http://americancensorship.org/).

What is your take on this?

You should also bring out a small update with the title screen of gg2 having a banner and link to the site.

It's incredibly stupid for a website whose userbase unanimously opposes SOPA already to do this

You should try to get the server host to shut down instead. And you should also add a list of popular servers that people can connect to via ip.

yeah I don't really think that this will raise any more awareness, as most of our american users have already seen Mag's topics about these bills

We should put a banner on the main site to raise awareness to people not on the forums.
