I think I got too used to the notion of beta tests are useless that I skipped them altogether. Plus I wanted to push out 2.6.4 quickly to get it over with and that cost me dearly.
> beta tests are useless
> get it over with
do you actually care about this game?
An awful lot, yes. Despite what people think, I do actually play the game.
a developer who has no interest in the users who play the game itself has zero business being a developer.
I do have an interest in the users. The reason I rushed it out was partly motivated by two particular things people were waiting for:
1) The HTTP overhaul, which fixed some horrible issues myself and others had
2) Haxxy rewards, which winners were obviously waiting for
In hindsight I should have been more careful as this caused more problems than it solved.
you cannot release a game for your own satisfaction ajf.
I don't. Releasing isn't particularly fun.
you're releasing a game for the satisfaction of the players who play the game.
That doesn't actually contradict your previous sentence since I play the game.
move forward from these ridiculous mistakes and make sure the release isn't laden with critical errors and a sordid lack of attention to detail.
I've said I would.
this isn't a group project in school where you're the only one doing work to get a barely passing grade for a credit. you're making light of the effort, donations, development, interest, skill, time, and the motivation of every single person who has EVER made a contribution to the game. there's a lot of power in your hands right now. don't fuck it up and destroy this game.
I'm not making light of anyone's efforts nor my mistakes. I screwed up, okay? Don't rub it in, I'm well aware, and future releases will be done more carefully.
